Well folks after a long winded, entertaining, and some loud shouting matches on twitter Carlos Cordeiro the former Vice President of USSF is now the new USSF president taking over for Sunil Gulati. The establishment candidate who had the inside track work hard to get the a big voting bloc from the Athletic council and the Youth council and despite his opponent Kathy Carter getting MLS and NWSL support in the end it was not enough to keep her slim lead before the election started on Saturday in Orlando. It’s a bummer none of the for change candidates such as Kyle Martino, Hope Solo, or Eric Wynalda could muster a challenge after the first round. Combine the outside canidates could only muster around 30% of the vote while Cordeiro and Carter already had 70% of the vote. The numbers for the reformers drop after each round until the 3rd round decided the election. I can only hope Cordeiro does improve the mood in the state of soccer in this country. It’s been very divisive and he says at the end he will work hard to earn people trust to get there support. Hopefully we can see more transparency, more invest in making lower division soccer better, and improve the scouting talent for players as well as improve and get resources to give more kids in the inner cities to play but I shouldn’t expect to get my hopes up. We need the USWNT and the NWSL to get treated equally like the USMNT and not just give them more money because other women’s national teams around the world can’t. Don’t expect Pro/Rel anytime soon during Cordeiro first term but hopefully NISA or Robert Palmer’s rumored Division Zero league find a way to make it a reality in a few years. As for the NASL i feel at this point it’s best for them to just focus on the lawsuit and let their teams decide what to due whats best for them. I hope the league finds a way to play this year but each passing week makes it seem unlikely unless settlement talks resume. So many issues in american soccer right now but at the moment we can only hope everyone will come together for the good of the game or expect this turmoil again in the 2022 USSF Election.
