Latest NISA Player Signings Roundup – March

Latest NISA Player Signings Roundup – March

Here is a list of former NISA players moving on to other leagues for March. Like previous months there was not much player movement. The NISA league is shifting its focus to a fall league tournament to launch later this year. Here are the latest moves I’ve tracked down for this month.

Tetsuya Kadono (Irvine Zeta FC)

Former Irvine Zeta FC goalkeeper Tetsuya Kadono will stay in Southern California after signing a contract with Orange County SC of the USL Championship for the 2025 season. The club announced the move on March 5. Kadono was primarily a backup keeper to starting goalkeeper Mitch North for Zeta FC during the 2024 NISA season. He did not play for Irvine during the regular season and playoff matches, but Kadono did start in their two NISA Independent Cup matches last summer to help his team win the Pacific Region Championship. Before joining Zeta FC last year, Kadono played college soccer at Cal State Fullerton and San Diego State. Kadono was born in Kobe, Japan, but grew up in Irvine, CA. He played his youth soccer at Irvine Strikers and Strikers FC and also played for the Ventura County Fusion in USL League Two in 2022.

Davey Mason (Maryland Bobcats FC)

Former Maryland Bobcats FC defender Davey Mason is headed to Texas, where he will join new USL League One expansion side Texoma FC for the 2025 season. The club announced the move on March 11. Mason spent last season with the Maryland Bobcats, made 13 appearances, and played over 1,100 minutes. He spent the 2023 season with the South Georgia Tormenta in USL League One and contributed three assists in 32 appearances for the club. Mason also previously played for the Maryland Bobcats from 2021 through 2022, scoring one goal and adding five assists.

Tatenda Mkuruva (Michigan Stars FC)

Former Michigan Stars FC goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva joins local rivals USL Championship side Detroit City FC. Mkuruva’s deal is for two years, which includes an option for the 2026 season. The club announced the move on March 25. Mkuruva has spent the last six seasons with the Michigan Stars from the beginning in the inaugural NPSL Members Cup campaign in 2019 through NISA in 2024. He made 98 appearances for the Stars and has 42 clean sheets. He worked his way to being the starting goalkeeper for Stars and was the club’s team captain in NISA. Mkuruva was also part of the squad that won the 2022 NISA championship title and finished runners-up in the 2023 NISA championship match. The 29-year-old goalkeeper has 16 caps for the Zimbabwe National team, working his way up from the U-17, U-20, and U-23’s to the senior team. Mkuruva previously played for Dynamos (Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League), Cape Town City FC (South African Premiership), and Buildcon FC (Zambia Super League).
